Tufts University Potential Site For Regional Vaccine Effort

The state approved a Metro North vaccine collaborative last week that includes Medford, Malden, Arlington, Somerville and Cambridge.

MEDFORD, MA — The Gantcher Center at Tufts University is a potential location for a regional vaccination site that will serve nine greater Boston communities.

On March 16, the state approved a proposal from the Cambridge Health Alliance, Tufts University and the communities of Arlington, Cambridge, Chelsea, Everett, Malden, Medford, Revere, Somerville and Winthrop to create the Metro North COVID-19 Vaccination Partnership, Claude Jacob, Cambridge's chief public health officer, told the Cambridge City Council Monday night.

The Cambridge Health Alliance's vaccination center near Target in Somerville is another shortlisted location. Other sites are to be determined, according to Jacob's presentation.

"Both sites are directly accessible by public transportation, and parking is available at both locations," Jacob said.

An opening date for the site has not been set, as the collaborative's launch hinges on an adequate vaccine supply becoming available.
