2013 MCAS Results: Where Do Melrose Schools Rank in Massachusetts?
Find out where Mystic Valley Regional Charter School, which serves students from Melrose, and Melrose Public Schools' MCAS results compared to other Massachusetts school districts.

In our latest You Ask, Patch Answers post, we answer the question: Where do Melrose schools' 2013 Massachusetts Comprehensive Assessment System (MCAS) scores rank in Massachusetts?
The 2013 MCAS exam results were released this week and the Boston Globe ranked roughly 500 public school districts based on their performance in subjects such as English, math and science. Students in grades 3 through 8 and in 10th grade took the MCAS.
Here's a look at where Mystic Valley Regional Charter School, which is based in Malden but we've included in our report because it serves Melrose students, and Melrose Public Schools ranked on the respective lists:
10th Grade
Mystic Valley Regional Charter School claimed the top spot on the 10th grade English exams list, while Melrose Public Schools ranked 154th.
In math, the charter school ranked in the top 25, coming in at no. 24, while the public schools ranked 117th.
In science, the charter school just missed finishing in the top 100, ranking 106th, while public schools came in at 234th on the list.
8th Grade
The charter school finished 112th in English and 143rd in math, while public schools ranked 131st and 120th in the same areas, respectively. As with math, public schools ranked 95th, while the charter school finished 265th spot on the list.
7th Grade
The charter school placed 93rd in English and 88th in math, while public schools ranked 110th and 150th in the same subjects, respectively.
6th Grade
The charter school finished in the top 50 in math, coming in at no. 48 on the list, while also making it into the top 100 in English at no. 93. Meanwhile, public schools ranked 168th in math and 147th in English.
5th Grade
The charter school had a strong showing in math, finishing 33rd on the list, while ranking 162nd in English and 191st in science. Of the three categories, public schools ranked best in English, finishing 94th, while placing 105th in math and 152nd in science.
4th Grade
The charter school finished in the 164th spot on the math list, while ranking 222nd in English. As for the public schools, they ranked 91st in math and 98th in English.
3rd Grade
In math, the charter school finished in the top 100, coming in at no. 92, while finishing 139th in English. Meanwhile, public schools excelled at this grade level, finishing 44th in English and 49th in math.
