The first day of school for Melrose Public School children entering grades 1 through 12 is Tuesday, August 28, 2012.

Grades 1-5: 8:15 a.m. – 2:20 p.m.
- Supervised line-up begins at 8:05 a.m. Please refer to drop-off/pick-up procedures posted on the web under Informational: first day of school announcement.
KINDERGARTEN STUDENTS

- August 28 and August 29:Kindergarten screening, by appointment only, will take place at the assigned elementary school. Screening appointments will be sent via the mail. If you do not receive an appointment letter by August 14, please call Eve Hoban at 781-462-3251.
- The first day of school for ALL Kindergarten students will be Thursday, August 30 from 8:15-11:00.
- Starting on Tuesday, September 4, classes will be held from 8:15-2:20. Supervised line-up begins at 8:05 a.m.
Grades 6-8, Middle School: 7:40 a.m. – 2:03 p.m.
On Tuesday, August 28 (only):
- All students in grade 6 should report to the auditorium.
- All students in grade 7 and 8 should report to their homerooms.
- Homeroom and Team assignments will be mailed home over the summer.
Grades 9-12, High School: 7:45 a.m. – 2:09 p.m.
On TUESDAY, August 28 (only):
- Students in grade 9 should report to the main lobby of the high school at 7:45 a.m.
- Students in grades 10-12 should report to their homerooms at 9:45 a.m.
- Homeroom assignments will be posted in the main lobby of the high school.
All students in grades 9-12 should report to their homerooms at 7:45 a.m. for a full day of school on Wednesday, August 29.
Melrose Public Schools are closed on Friday, Aug. 31 and Monday, Sept. 3 in observance of Labor Day.
EARLY CHILDHOOD CENTER at the Franklin School:
All programs will begin the week of September 4 on the weekday designated by program type. Welcome letters with specific start of school information will be mailed in August. Contact the Early Childhood Center at 781-979-2260 with questions. Limited spaces are still available in certain programming options.
MELROSE PUBLIC SCHOOLS – EDUCATION STATIONS - After School Enrichment Program
The first day of Education Stations, the Melrose Public Schools after school enrichment program, for children entering grades 1 through 5 is TUESDAY, August 28, 2012. The first day for kindergarten students will be Tuesday, September 4. The program will not operate on Friday, August 31 and Monday, September 3 as schools are closed in observance of Labor Day. Pre-registration is required, and information/registration links can be found on our website at www.MelroseSchools.com/EducationStations. Registration and payment are due by August 5th to secure early discount rates. Please call 617-529-9895 or email EducationStation@melrose.mec.edu with questions.

Many of the forms that are typically sent home on the first day of school that provide the district with mandatory data collection information are posted there. Please take the time to navigate this site, complete the required forms and have them ready to be returned to school with your child on the first day.
