City Launches Melrose Birth to Five Initiatives

The Melrose Birth to Five Advisory Committee announced initiatives aimed at connecting families and building community Tuesday morning during a press conference from the library at Melrose Veterans Memorial Middle School.

The initiative derived from the work of the committee, which was created last winter, according to Mayor Rob Dolan. The project also was borne from feedback received from residents by the city in their Our City Series survey.

There are about two dozen members of the committee, including the mayor, State Rep. Paul Brodeur and Cathy Flynn of the Melrose YMCA, to name a couple.

The group's website, www.cityofmelrose.org/birthtofive, launched on Tuesday.

The website has a calendar featuring city sponsored events and information about parks around the city, according to Director of Community Services Mike Lindstrom. Other resources that will be available to Melrosians include a place to sign up for email updates on events and services, resource guide for childcare, activities and financial assistance and also a drop-in parents group at the Melrose Family YMCA starting in January.
