Ward Hamilton announced his candidacy today to represent Melrose on the Northeast Metro Tech School Committee. Believing that all students are capable of learning, Northeast Metro Tech – through the integration of the efforts of the communities, parents, administration, faculty, students, and staff – is committed to supplying to its students a rigorous academic and career/technical education in an open, diverse and supportive environment. The Northeast School Committee is comprised of members from the communities served by the school.

Born and raised in Melrose, Ward and his wife of 26 years, Andrea, are the parents of five children who have attended the public schools. As a former union bricklayer and the now owner of a construction company, he understands just how valuable a career in the trades can be. Unfortunately, not enough young people in Melrose are aware of the opportunities available to them at Northeast Metro Tech.

“While attending a vocational school may be the right path for many young people, a career in the trades isn’t always a well-known option,” Hamilton said. “My goal is to change that so that kids in Melrose, often the least represented of the twelve communities the school serves, are aware of what is offered there. Making sure the school offers best in class instruction and that students from Melrose have access will be my top priorities.”
