'Instrument Petting Zoo' at Memorial Hall Sunday

It's like a regular petting zoo, except with musical instruments instead of animals.

Most of the time, it’s a bit of a challenge to convince children to sit through a classical music concert. On Sunday, Melrose Symphony Orchestra hosts an event intended as a tad more kid-friendly than their usual gigs.

A missive from the MSO explains that an “Instrument Petting Zoo” has been slated for 1:30 p.m., March 29, at Memorial Hall, followed by a live performance of “Peter and the Wolf” at 3 p.m. If Patch understands the press release properly, visitors will be allowed to play the musical instruments, not just pet them.

Not that there’s anything wrong with petting a trombone, let’s say, but it would be a pretty strange thing to do.
