MELROSE, MA — On May 3rd, Melrose City Councilor-At-Large Maya Jamaleddine drew nomination papers and officially announced her bid for reelection. Jamaleddine—a longtime community advocate and activist—is seeking her second term on the City Council.

“It has been an honor serving the people of Melrose,” says Jamaleddine. “I am excited to continue representing this great city and advocating for much-needed resources.” Jamaleddine has made social services, accessibility, and equity the keystones of her campaign. Says Jamaleddine, “Too many people in Melrose are struggling to access the support they need. We can do better.”

Councilor Jamaleddine is currently serving as the Council’s Chair of Health, Education, and Welfare. As COVID-19 began spreading through Melrose last year, she organized an initiative for residents to sew and collect face masks for individuals living in communal housing. She also successfully advocated for the hiring of a city social worker, a position which she hopes will become full-time. Most recently, she submitted an order joining Councilors Grigoraitis and Migliorelli asking the administrators to provide the city’s plans regarding the remaining $4.8M in free cash for FY21.

Throughout her first term, Jamaleddine has worked directly with constituents needing assistance. “I want to be sure every person in Melrose can connect with the right resources. Whether it’s dealing with parking tickets, school bullying, or domestic violence, I am here to answer the call.”
