Join Us in Support of Voting Rights

Standout this Saturday at 9 AM at City Hall

The Melrose Democratic City Committee invites all of our neighbors to gather with us for a standout in support of the John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act starting at 9 AM on Saturday, May 8th at the corner of Main and Essex Streets, in front of City Hall. Please bring a sign and a mask and be ready to raise awareness about the threat that voter suppression poses to our nation.

The 2020 national election was a triumph for democracy, as more Americans securely cast their ballots than in any previous election. Despite the failure of Donald Trump to undermine the results of that election, Republican legislators in several states, notably Georgia and Florida, are now working to disenfranchise voters, particularly communities of color. The John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act would restore robust federal oversight to state elections practices, ensuring ballot access to all.
