Melrose Champions Gets Recognition

Five of the high school's sports teams were recently awarded citations for winning the Middlesex League Freedom Division.

MELROSE, MA — They conquered one of the most unique seasons in history. Deservedly, they're being recognized for it.

Rep. Kate Lipper-Garabedian recently awarded citations presented on behalf of the House of Representatives to five Melrose sports teams.

The boys' ice hockey, girls' volleyball, football, cheerleading and girls' indoor track teams all won the Middlesex League Freedom Division in their seasons, which were impacted in varying ways by the pandemic. Many spent the preceding months wondering if they'd even really get to play.

"Congratulations! I'll be back soon with citations for the spring sports!" Lipper-Garabedian said on Facebook.
