Melrose COVID-19 Numbers Trending In Right Direction

MELROSE, MA — The city's coronavirus numbers continue to trend in an overall positive direction despite well over another hundred confirmed cases the past two weeks.

Melrose's positive test rate dropped from 3.58 percent to 3.05 percent, its lowest number in several weeks. The average daily incidence rate per 100,000 also continued its freefall, going from 42.9 to 34.

"This is a reflection of the great work of our Health Department and our community," Mayor Paul Brodeur said in his weekly COVID update video. "I am grateful for your continuing efforts to stop the spread of the virus."

Melrose still saw 138 cases the past two weeks, bringing the total number of cases since the start of the pandemic to 1,551.

Brodeur also said the vaccination clinic last Friday at Memorial Hall vaccinated 940 people, while Monday's clinic in Wakefield vaccinated 1,483 people.

"Our communities will continue this partnership and are ready, willing, and able to run more clinics subject to vaccine availability and eligibility as determined by the federal and state government," Brodeur said.
