Melrose COVID Improvement Finally Levels Off

MELROSE, MA — The dramatic improvements in various COVID-19 metrics the city has been experiencing finally leveled off this week, still leaving Melrose in a much better place than it was in December and early January.

Melrose remained yellow in the state's color-coded designations, seeing small increases in positive test rate and average daily incidence rate per 100,000.

The test rate went from 2.17 to 2.25. The average positive cases per 100,000 went from 21.7 to 23.2.

There were 94 confirmed cases the past two weeks, bringing the city's total to 1,694 since the start of the pandemic.

"As always, I appreciate all your efforts to keep the virus at bay, and I know we are all excited that Spring is on the way," Mayor Paul Brodeur said Thursday night in a video. "Keep wearing those masks, practicing good hygiene, maintaining social distance, and staying home if you have symptoms. And please always cooperate with contact tracers if and when they contact you. Together, we will get through this."
