Melrose Football Falls to Dartmouth in Super Bowl

The Red Raiders were beaten 26-21 at Gillette Stadium over the weekend.

The Melrose Red Raiders high school football team took the field at Gillette Stadium Saturday with the hopes of earning a Division 3 Super Bowl victory, but they instead lost to Dartmouth on the biggest stage for the second straight season, 26-21.

Dartmouth’s Chris Martin ran all over Melrose in 2014 with 215 yards. He again broke loose on Saturday, racking up 205 yards and three scores.

The Red Raiders hung tough though, earning a pair of goal line stops in the second quarter.

Despite a pair of touchdown connections between Mike Pedrini and Julian Nyland, Melrose was unable to hold off Dartmouth. They led 7-6 at after two quarters, but were outscored 20-14 in the second half.

A fourth quarter fumble by Melrose led to a Dartmouth touchdown, spelling defeat for the Red Raiders.

Melrose, known for its superior rushing attack, managed just 49 yards on the ground in the game.

Melrose’s season ended with a record of 12-1.
