Three dozen Melrose High School German students recently competed in the National German Exam, according to the Melrose Public Schools website.

The exam's administration period is Dec. 2, 2013 through Feb. 1, 2014, according to the American Association of Teachers of German website.

"For the first time ever, this national competition was administered online," reads a Global Language Department post on the schools website. "No stranger to piloting tests – our German students have been piloting AP questions for years – our students didn’t even think twice about this innovative exam…even after a (two-)day snow storm!"

Students took the exam, sponsored by the American Association of Teachers of German, using the iPads donated by a citizen. The exam involved local students competing against German students nationwide in various categories including decoding, reading and listening to the German language.

Exam results will be made available in several months, according to the schools website.
