Melrose Man Accused of A&B with a Dangerous Weapon

At 12:12 p.m. Sept. 27, Melrose Police responded to a Grove Street apartment for a report of a disturbance. The caller reported that a person allegedly smashed a bottle over someone else's head. Derek Genica, 19, of 67 Grove St., Melrose, was arrested and charged with assault and battery with a dangerous weapon.

Sept. 26

2 p.m.: Main Street, caller reported attempted break into his home earlier in the day, and a neighbor scared the suspect away.

7:58 p.m.: Penney Hill Road, caller reported that his apartment was broken into.

Sept. 27

6:25 a.m.: Washington Street, caller reported finding a smashed-up Mercedes with Rhode Island plates in their driveway. The car, which was towed from the scene, may have been involved in an accident in Malden.

9:40 a.m.: Pleasant Street, report of a disturbance. Wei Wei, 32, of 181 Pleasant St. Apt. F, Melrose, was arrested and charged with assault and battery.

3:21 p.m.: Main Street near Dunkin' Donuts, report of a rooster in the road. The rooster was returned to its owner on Myrtle Street.

Sept. 28

4:13 a.m.: Washington Street, report of a single-car crash. The vehicle was towed from the scene.

8:28 a.m.: Lynn Fells Parkway at Main Street, report of a motor vehicle accident. 

11:34 a.m.: Bartlett Street, report of a possible house fire. The fire was extinguished quickly.

12:34 p.m.: Sanford Road, a complaint was filed by a resident about their neighbor. A 57-year-old Melrose woman was summonsed on two counts of criminal harassment and one count of disorderly conduct.

7:01 p.m.: Sewall Woods Road and Lynn Fells Parkway area, caller reported that a dog was struck by a vehicle. The dog was found dead by police.

8:55 p.m.: A person visited the police station to report a vehicle stolen on Main Street in the area of Hunt's Photo & Video.
