Melrose MLK Day Breakfast, Services
The community remembers the great Dr. King and his unrivaled work toward change and equality.

MELROSE, MA — A special celebration and discussion will take place during Martin Luther King Jr. Day in Melrose. On Monday, Jan. 15, the community is invited to consider just how open and inviting to all Melrose is, enjoy a potluck dinner, and remember the great Dr. King and his heart for equality and change.
The day begins at 9:30 a.m., where volunteers are invited to sign up at the Unitarian Church on West Emerson. There will be light breakfast provided by the YMCA. When you sign up, you will go to one of the following events (taken from the Melrose Human Rights Commission:)
**10 - 11:30am: “A Conversation About White Privilege: Looking at Melrose” led by people who have taken the White People Challenging Racism class. Four panel members will share their knowledge and first-hand experience with white privilege. Is Melrose a community open to all? How does the Wealth Gap affect our city? What does our image say about Melrose? What can we learn from our history? What can we do to make positive changes?

Starting with the reading and watching of an MLK speech, a group book reading, and ending with writing of poems describing what they hope for to have a better future. These will be collected and made into a “dream rainbow” that will be displayed.
That evening there will be a potluck dinner from 5-6 at the First Congregational church on West Foster followed by a program honoring Dr. King from 6-8. You can see more details on those events in the flyer below.
