Melrose is 'Most Desirable' City in United States

The City of Melrose is the “hottest” real estate market in the United States and is apparently the new place to be in Massachusetts, according to a recent study conducted by Realtor.com.

“Welcome to the hottest ZIP code in the U.S.! Close to both Boston and Cambridge, Melrose has become a magnet for young professionals and families due to its relative affordability, access to public transportation, and attractive downtown area. The median income for households headed by 25- to 34-year-olds is $88,000—67% higher than for the average millennial in the U.S.,” Realtor.com said of Melrose.

Realtor’s data team set out to identify the top ten zip codes in the U.S., where homes sell faster than the national average, were listed less time and were viewed more than houses in surrounding areas.

“This is literally the most desirable spot in the country,” Realtor.com’s chief economist, Jonathan Smoke, told the Boston Globe.

Realtor says the popularity of the community is fueled by median income and the affordability of homes for first-time buyers. Melrose’s strong school systems, the short commutes in which it offers and its area restaurants and stores, also play a major role.

No other city in the Northeast portion of the country made the top ten on Realtor’s list.
