MELROSE, MA — There's a new sergeant in town, and he's a familiar face. Det. Kevin Mulrenan is now Sgt. Kevin Mulrenan after a promotion earlier this month in a socially distanced ceremony at City Hall.

"Sgt. Mulrenan has done exceptional work for the department over the years and I know he will continue to excel in this new role," Chief Mike Lyle said. "He has shown that he is an exceptional leader and investigator, and I wish him all the best as he takes this next step in his career."

Mulrenan was a detective for the last 11 years after joining as a patrol officer in 1995. He has been the evidence room officer and bicycle officer while on the force. From 1997-2005, Mulrenan was the president of the Patrolman's Union.
