Melrose School Choice Public Hearing Later This Month
The School Choice program allows for students to attend a public school in a city or town where the student resides.

The following was submitted by Melrose Public Schools:
At their meeting scheduled for Tuesday, January 26, 2021, the Melrose School Committee will hold a public hearing on School Choice in accordance with the provisions of Chapter 76, Section 12B (d) for the 2021/2022 school year.
The School Choice program as set forth in M.G.L. c. 76, §12B allows for students to attend a public school in a city or town where the student does not reside. The Melrose Public Schools did not participate in the School Choice program for the 2020-2021 school year, however an annual public hearing and vote is required by the Statute.

The hearing will begin at 7:00 p.m. All interested persons will be given an opportunity to be heard for or against school choice. Per Governor Baker’s order suspending certain provisions of the Open Meeting Law, G.L. c. 30A sec. 20, the public will not be allowed to physically access this School Committee meeting. The public can find online access and public hearing participation instructions to view this meeting cityofmelrose.org/remote-meetings.
