Melrose-Specific Vaccination Clinics Coming To End

The state is streamlining the vaccination process and increasing the capacity of larger sites.

MELROSE, MA — It's unknown how many more coronavirus vaccination clinics Melrose will be able to host after officials announced changes to the state's choppy rollout.

State officials told most boards of health Wednesday they won't be getting vaccine doses for clinics that are only for local residents. The change takes effect March 1.

The state said the change is to streamline the vaccination process and increase capacity at the larger vaccination locations, including mass vaccination sites, regional collaboratives and pharmacies.

"Our goal is to build more efficient vaccination sites regionally that can vaccinate people more quickly," Gov. Charlie Baker said.

Melrose hosted a clinic Wednesday for city residents 75 and older at Memorial Hall. The city will receive enough second doses to vaccinate people who already received the first shot.
