Melrose Stays Yellow, But Coronavirus Numbers Improve

MELROSE, MA — The city remained yellow in the state's coronavirus map released Wednesday despite improving metrics from the previous week's report.

There were 18 cases counted the previous two weeks, three fewer than the two-week count from last week. Melrose has seen 332 coronavirus cases since the start of the pandemic.

The city's two-week positive test rate has decreased from 1.01 to .75 percent.

The average daily incidence rate per 100,000 residents also dipped from 5.2 to 4.45. A community will go back to green when that numbers goes below 4.

The increase that sent Melrose from green to yellow last week could not be attributed to "one specific place or population," Health Director Ruth Clay told Patch.

The Melrose Public Schools are still expected to start hybrid learning in mid-October.

The city can begin the second step of Phase 3 of the state's reopening plan Monday. That includes things like increased gathering limits and gym capacity.
