Mike Zwirko Is The Clear Choice For Mayor: Letter To The Editor

For the first time in 18 years, the citizens of Melrose will be electing a new Mayor. This election will set the direction of our city and it is critical that we elect a person who will put the people of Melrose first. It is clear to me that Mike Zwirko is the best candidate for this job.

I moved to Melrose 5 years ago, and I’ve learned that Mike is a smart, hardworking and thoughtful person who cares about this city. Whether it’s a little league game, a school play, or a Chamber of Commerce event; if it’s important to Melrose, Mike is there to support it.

When I brought my son to the “Welcome to Kindergarten Party in the Park” this past Thursday, I knew I would see Mike there supporting Melrose’s next generation, because he truly cares. Sure enough, there he was, greeting the newest students of the Melrose school system. And it’s not just about showing up for things, it’s about making Melrose and the people here a priority. Recent events on Brazil Street have shown how important it is to have a Mayor who puts the people of Melrose first. I am certain that person is Mike Zwirko.

In his capacity as an Alderman-at-Large, Mike has always put the people of Melrose first. I believe nothing shows Mike’s dedication to Melrose more than his actions in the wake of Mayor Dolan stepping down in 2018. Mike was there to lead as President of the Board of Alderman in 2018 when Melrose was in transition. While others were playing politics, Mike was encouraging unity, even if it meant he had to sacrifice. Melrose has always come first.

While Mike’s experience as an Alderman will be key to his success as our next Mayor, it’s not just his record that makes him the best candidate, but his bold plans for the future. Mike has plans to help Melrose grow smarter with an Economic Development Director. As an Architect, I have seen firsthand the impact a Mayor with a smart plan can have on sensible economic development.

No matter the policy or problem facing the city I feel confident that the driving force behind all of Mike’s decisions is his dedication to the people of Melrose. That is why, at the preliminary election on September 17th, I hope you will join me in supporting Mike Zwirko for Mayor of Melrose.
