Northeast Metro Tech's O'Connell Honored By Aldermen

The senior captain of the Golden Knights football team helped lead his school its second straight Super Bowl victory.

John Patrick "J.P." O'Connell, a Melrose resident and senior at Northeast Metro Tech, received a resolution from the on Monday night for his role in leading the school's football team to a successful championship defense.

Northeast Metro Tech won the Division IV Super Bowl again this year with a 38-14 victory over Brighton, after winnin the Super Bowl last year in a 42-0 victory over Pope John. O'Connell was a senior captain, defensive tackle and tight end on the team.

Ward 7 Alderman William Forbes read aloud the resolution, which said that O'Connell was a three-year starter for the Golden Knights, playing in every game except for one, and finished this past season with 45 tackles and five sacks.

O Connell was also recently named to the Boston Globe All-Scholastic Team and named MVP of the Commonwealth Small League.

Forbes also presented O'Connell with a resolution from the state House of Representatives, offered by Rep. Paul Brodeur, D-Melrose, and Sen. Katherine Clark, D-Melrose.
