Complaints Lead to Marijuana Smokers Behind Lloyd Memorial Pool

Tuesday, Oct. 5, 7:45 a.m. Melrose Police Lt. Mark DeCroteau said Melrose Police officers have been checking the area around the Lloyd Memorial Pool on Tremont Street due to complaints of people congregating behind the pool. Last Tuesday, a Melrose Police detective was checking the area around 7:45 a.m. and came across two young adult men, both over the age of 18, smoking marijuana. Each was given a civil citation for possession of marijuana.

Two days later, also around 7:45 a.m., another officer was checking the area and found a 15-year-old male smoking marijuana. When the officer attempted to speak to him, the juvenile became "disorderly and combative," DeCroteau said, and was placed under arrest for disorderly conduct, resisting arrest and assault and battery on police officer.

Serious Late Night Car Accident on West Wyoming Avenue

Saturday, Oct. 9, 11:17 p.m. Melrose Police received several 911 calls for a car accident with injuries on West Wyoming Avenue. DeCroteau said one driver was traveling east on West Wyoming Avenue when another driver exited Trenton Street without stopping. The car on West Wyoming collided with the second car and then struck a utility pole.

The first driver refused transport to the hospital and was treated on scene, while the second driver was taken by ambulance to the hospital, DeCroteau said, with the extent of her injuries unknown. There was "extensive" damage to both vehicles and the accident is still under investigation, but DeCroteau added that there was no indication of any consumption of drugs or alcohol was involved in the accident.

Attempted Break Into Vacant Home Hit By Fires

Monday, Oct. 4, 3:48 p.m. The Melrose Fire Department notified Melrose Police to respond to 33 Groveland Rd, the address of a vacant house hit by two suspicious fires last month. DeCroteau said "it was apparent that somebody, at some time, had attempted to enter" the house by prying off plywood boarded up over a side door.

Other Arrests and Summonses

William J. Davis, 45, 80 Franklin St. Stoneham, was arrested on Saturday, Oct. 9 on a third offense of OUI liquor and a motor vehicle lights violation.

A 15-year-old and a 16-year-old were issued summonses on Saturday, Oct. 9 on charges of trespassing.

A 16-year-old was issued a summons on Saturday, Oct. 9 on charges of assault and intimidating a witness.

A 41-year-old Melrose man was placed under warrant arrest on Sunday, Oct. 10.
