Police Log Roundup: Locked In ATM, Disorderly Juvenile and Vandals

ATM Holds Person Hostage

Thursday, June 24, 8:29 a.m. A person walked into the Melrose Police Station to report that someone was locked inside the Bank of America ATM at the corner of West Foster Street and Main Street. An officer freed the person and notified Bank of America of a problem with the door.

Thursday, June 24, 7:56 a.m. A Melrose Police officer responded to a report of vandalism on Green Street. One of the home's residents told the officer that two large clay flower pots were broken overnight and that they heard a noise around 11 p.m. the night before, according to Melrose Police Lt. Mark DeCroteau.

Later that day, at 2:20 p.m., police responded to another incidence of vandalism just around the corner, at Melrose Electrology and Laser Centre, 944 Main St., where ground-level windows were broken. DeCroteau said that no access was gained to the building.

Disorderly Juvenile Arrested Outside Shaw's

Saturday, June 26, 2:32 p.m. Melrose Police received a complaint from Shaw's Supermarket on Essex Street that a group of youths were causing a disturbance in the store. When an officer arrived and interview a 14-year-old in that group, DeCroteau said the young teen "became disorderly" and was placed under arrest. The 14-year-old was charged with disorderly conduct, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon (a shod foot), resisting arrest and threatening to commit a crime (to slice throat).

Dispute Leads To Warrant Arrest

Sunday, June 27, 9:11 p.m. A caller reported an altercation at a South Mountain Avenue home. When police arrived, DeCroteau said officers found no evidence regarding the alleged dispute, but after running searches on each of the people involved, discovered one man had a warrant out for his arrest for being a fugutive from justice on a court warrant. The 20-year-old man was subsequently placed under arrest.

Other Arrests and Summonses

A 32-year-old Malden woman was issued a summons on Tuesday, June 22 on the charge of threatening to commit a crime.

A 21-year-old Melrose woman was issued a summons on Friday, June 25 on the charge of intimidating a witness.

A 20-year-old Malden man was issued a summons on Saturday, June 26 on the charge of operating a vehicle with a suspended license.
