Pregnant Woman Mugged At Stoneham Pawn Shop, Say Police

Next door to Melrose, Shane Francis Hardy, 22, of Stoneham, was arrested and charged with attempted robbery and assault.

A pregnant woman was mugged while working behind the counter at Cash for Gold in Stoneham Wednesday afternoon, according to a report from Stoneham Police.

Subsequently, Shane Francis Hardy, 22, of Stoneham, was arrested and charged with attempted robbery and assault via a dangerous weapon on a pregnant woman.

At 1:20 p.m. Wednesday, police say a man they believe to be Hardy tried to pawn unspecified jewelry at the 305 Main St. establishment.

Unhappy with the price his alleged soon-to-be victim offered, Hardy left the store, changed his mind, returned, and completed the transaction.

Then he left the store again, returned with a knife, and told the woman behind the counter to hand over her belongings. Police say the victim proceeded to escape the store while her would-be assailant was looking around for things to steal.

It is noteworthy that the man police allege was Hardy would have had to give Cash For Gold his identification before pawning his jewelry. Stoneham Police say that made him easy to track down.

Hardy’s bail has been set at $25,000, and was on probation at the time of this recent arrest, police say.
