Red Hatters June 2021

by Shirley Rabb

June 3rd was the first theater performance we went to since March 2019. It was a great show that was held at the Memorial Hall in Melrose. The performance was done by the Delvena Theater Company and the play was "Lizzie Borden and the Forty Whacks".

The company includes only three very talented members. Fran Baron is the writer and producer, Lynne Moulton and Joseph Zamparelli performers. Both Ms. Moulton and Mr. Zamparelli are professional actors. Mr. Zamparelli has also produced and directed other works of art in the New England area.

The play was about the trial and acquittal of Lizzie Borden, and the two actors played the parts of all the characters, including the judge, district attorney and defendant's attorney. Also parts being played by Ms. Moulton and Mr. Zamparelli were the Borden maid, the neighbor next door, a singing girl and the newsboy.

When the notorious case ended with a great deal of applause, the audience was asked to decide on the verdict they would have chosen,. There were questions to be asked and answered and although we all left delighted with the performance we wonder; was the jury right?

Our destination for dinner this day was Bobby C's in Malden , a few short miles away.

A table in the corner, by the window was set up and the waiter and staff greeted us, as usually happens when we descend upon a place with our purple outfits and Red Hats.

The assortments of meals were leading towards Italian but I enjoyed my mussels and ice tea as well as everyone enjoyed their selections.

Take out boxes, of course, and another great Happy Red Hat day.

This has been the start of a new season; a season of freedom and safety and more time to get together.

June was only the beginning of our quest for more fun to follow in the future months.

Keep an eye on the Patch to follow us as we really get moving in July.
