Saugus High School Coach Dies In Heavy Machinery Accident
Mark Bertrand, 57, was operating a Bobcat machine on Friday night when it rolled over, according to authorities.
SAUGUS, MA — The man killed Friday night in an accident with a piece of heavy machinery has been identified as Saugus basketball coach Mark Bertrand, according to reports.
Bertrand, 57, was operating a Bobcat machine at his Woodland Avenue home on Friday evening when it flipped over. Police and firefighters arrived to find him trapped under the machine.
Bertrand later died at Melrose-Wakefield Hospital, according to authorities. Police did not immediately say what might have caused the accident.

Bertrand's wife confirmed his death to the Saugus Advertiser late Friday night.

Bertrand took over as the Saugus High School boys basketball head coach in 2018. Before that, he coached the freshman and junior varsity teams. He graduated from the school in 1982, and later played basketball for Worcester State in the 1980s.
