Some 'No Parking' Signs A Necessary Evil: Letter To The Editor
One longtime Melrose resident who had a "No Parking Opposite Driveway" sign chimes in on the discussion.

The following is a Letter to the Editor from longtime Melrose resident Randy Huber regarding the Traffic Commission Special Meeting. You can get in on the conversation by emailing mike.carraggi@patch.com. And make sure to subscribe to Melrose Patch for more local news and real-time alerts!
As a former homeowner on Trenton Street, and one who successfully had a “No Parking Opposite Driveway” sign installed 35+ years ago, I am well aware of their necessity. Although I’m not a huge proponent of more signage, one has to sort of experience the situation to really know how very difficult it is (and even sometimes impossible during the winter) to access/egress a driveway on some of our narrower streets if a car is parked opposite. One would hope/think that neighbors would recognize this, without the need for signage, but unfortunately that just doesn’t happen!
As for the ‘plethora’ of stop signs proposed on W. Emerson (the speed bump discussion should hopefully last all of 5 seconds, I mean please, seriously, speed bumps?), maybe something is going on that I have not been aware of in my 70 years living in Melrose, but my initial reaction is that it seems like substantial overkill!

As I said, just my opinions, but I do thank you for putting the agenda/items for discussion on the Melrose Patch, as I would otherwise have been unaware of them.
