Stimulus Funds Awarded To Melrose Housing Authority
The $69,000 will pay for heating systems in 11 Housing Authority owned and managed residences.

The Melrose Housing Authority will receive more than $69,000 in federal stimulus funds that will go towards replacing heating systems in 11 family residences in Melrose, the city's Beacon Hill delegation announced in a joint press release.
The state Department of Housing and Community Development (DHCD) awarded funds to the MHA and four other public housing authorities through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act's Weatherization Assistance Program, according to a press release from Rep. Katherine Clark, D-Melrose, Sen. Richard Tisei, R-Wakefield, and Sen. Tom McGee, D-Lynn.
Katherine M. O'Koniewski, Clark's legislative aide, followed up in an e-mail, stating that the funds will specifically go towards 11 family residences. Repeated attempts to contact Ann St. Pierre, MHA executive director, for additional details were unsuccessful.

Replacing the older heating systems will help lower costs for tenants in MHA's state and federally-subsidized housing, who pay for their heating fuel bills, according to the release.
