Thoughts while shaving

by Jim Tierney

Do you remember when you could take your family to Fenway Park for less than the price of a single ticket today? In the “olden” days, they had Family Day a few times during the season when Dad would pay $2.50 and other family members $.50. There were eight of us so it cost $7 for all of us to sit in the grandstand, the same seats that cost $99 EACH today. Not only that, we brought in a cooler that contained all of our goodies and drinks that would cost over $100 at the concession stand today. Occasionally, I took a couple of my kids to opening day and had to write an absence note to the teacher that simply said they had the “fever”. We walked freely into the park, carrying everything and anything we wished. Sometimes we went to Fenway without the kids and sat in the bleachers for the standard price of 50 cents and got a nice suntan to boot. Most games were during the day then.
