Week in Review for Sept. 13-19: Primary Winners, Victorian Fair
A look back at Melrose's top stories of the week.
The top story of the week: Katherine Clark and David Lucas emerging victorious in Tuesday's primaries. During the day, Melrose Patch visited each of the city's polling sites to speak with voters and poll workers, which is where our photo of the week comes from.
The 30th annual Victorian Fair was held along Main Street on Sunday and Melrose Patch spoke with Chamber Executive Director Joan Ford Mongeau and some of the artists displaying their works. Dropkick Murphys lead guitarist Tim Brennan, and bandmates Jeff DaRosa and James Lynch, signed autographs for a group of teens at the Melrose Y for the grand opening of the new Common Ground teen center.

Also last weekend, the third annual Melrose Dog Festival raised funds for the Melrose Humane Society, while the Melrose Pondfeilders vintage baseball team played a doubleheader against the Essex Nine.
In the arts, the Music in Melrose Coffeehouse kicked off its fifth season; Possessions Gallery on Main Street celebrated its grand opening; and Melrose resident Mike Biddle recently oversaw the design of new $27 million visitor center at Yellowstone National Park.

In sports, the Melrose High School volleyball team remained unbeaten with a big road-win against previously undefeated Reading on Friday, while a fourth quarter defensive stand gave the football team its first win of the season.
The boys soccer team picked up win on Tuesday thanks to a second-half goal by Anthony McElligott and then finished with a scoreless tie on the road against Reading Thursday—check out our sports photo of the week from that game—while the field hockey team dropped a 2-0 decision to visiting Woburn on Wednesday.
The Melrose School Committee took up the task of setting its annual goals for Superintendent Joe Casey and for the committee itself.
