Bennett-Hemenway Educator Named Teacher of the Year Finalist

The Governor honored the top educators from Massachusetts this week.

Massachusetts' finest educators gathered at the museum of science last week to hear from Gov. Deval Patrick andΒ Secretary of Education Matthew Malone.

Among the honorees was Mary Gavin a teacher of grades 1-4 ACCESS at theΒ Bennett-Hemenway School. Gavin was one of five finalists for the Teacher of the Year award.

β€œTeachers are doing the most important work in America today,” Malone said. β€œIt is opportunities such as this where we honor the best but also recognize that they represent thousands more who are the unsung heroes of our cities and towns.”

The other finalists included:

  • Kimberly Chaffee, 11th and 12th grade history teacher, Quaboag Regional Middle High School, Warren.Β 
  • Jenna Gampel, a 2nd grade teacher, Conservatory Lab Charter School, Brighton.Β 
  • Ann Lambert, grades 10-12 chemistry teacher, King Philip Regional High School, Wrentham.Β 
  • And Anne Marie Bettencourt, a Springfield Central High School 9th grade English Language Arts teacher was recognized as the 2014 Teacher of the Year and is pictured with this article.
