NATICK, MA β€” Weekend commuter rail riders should expect a service disruption over the last weekend of March due to major bridge construction project in Wellesley.

Beginning at 8 p.m. on March 26, MBTA crews will begin installing foundations for a new rail bridge that spans Bacon Street. The work will mean a closure of the street, and a closure of the bridge. Shuttle buses will replace trains for the entire weekend.

The MBTA said the weekend work will wrap up by 5 a.m. on March 29. Car and truck traffic will be diverted around the construction via Weston Road in Wellesley, Route 9, Walnut Street in Natick and Route 27 in Natick.

The full Bacon Street bridge replacement β€” one of six bridges across the commuter rail system the MBTA is spending $91 million to fix β€” won't be complete until 2022. There will be a second full closure of Bacon Street sometime later this spring or in early summer, according to the MBTA.
