Estate Of Sculptor, Philanthropist Amelia Peabody: $6.5 Million
The unbelievable sprawling 40-acre estate in Dover features a Bauhaus studio, a guest house designed by a famed architect, and more.
DOVER, MA β This estate in Dover formerly owned by artist and philanthropist Amelia Peabody is enormous. But it's small compared to what Peabody did in her lifetime.
Peabody was born in 1890 into a wealthy banking family β her grandfather in 1865 founded Kidder, Peabody & Co., which was sold to General Electric in the 1980s. She was a sculptor, but also raised prize-winning livestock on the grounds of this 40-acre Dover home.
"For many years, she was the chairman of the Arts and Skills Service of the American Red Cross, which promoted art therapy for wounded servicemen during World War II, and continued to promote art therapy for hospital patients of all kinds after the war," according to the Massachusetts Historical Society.
