Natick Baseball Hosting Coaches vs. Cancer Game

The Natick High School baseball team will be playing for cancer awareness as the American Cancer Society will be there as the Redhawks host Wellesley on May 20.

The Natick High School baseball team will be hosting Wellesley in a Coaches vs. Cancer game on Monday, May 20.

For Redhawks coach Josh Hanna, the game is a way to keep a friend of his who passed away last January in his life. His friend died from cancer.

"[Cancer] is a thing that affects us all," Hanna. "We love athletics... Sometimes I think we get carried away with tangibles such as championships."

Hanna was invited to a high school football game in Michigan, where his friend is from, and in that game every player played for someone and a charity.

That's what the Redhawks and Raiders will do at their game on Monday. Each Natick player will wear a jersey with the name of who they're playing for on the back.

"They'll also present a jersey to a person they're playing for in a pre-game ceremony that starts at 6:45," Hanna said.

The American Cancer Society will be at the game and they will be doing a 50/50 raffle with the crowd. People can give flat donations as well.

Coach Hanna encourages people to stop by, even if it's just for an inning.
