Natick Firefighter Dies In 'Active Duty Death'

NATICK, MA β€” A Natick firefighter died this week in what the firefighters union is calling an "active duty death."

The Professional Firefighters of Massachusetts union said that Jake John Francis Feeney IV died on Tuesday in Milton. The union did not say what caused Feeney's death.

"The Professional Firefighters of Massachusetts and Natick Local 1707 regret to announce the active duty death of Brother Jake John Francis Feeney IV," a letter from the union released Thursday said.

Feeney was one of three firefighters who graduated from the state firefighting academy in February. He joined the Natick department along with firefighters Peter Carbone and Kyle Sammon. Natick fire Chief Michael Lentini said Feeney was also a paramedic in Natick.

In a separate incident on Thursday, a Natick firefighter was injured battling a two-alarm fire at the former St. Patrick’s School.

Services will be held for Feeney on Sunday and Monday in Milton, according to the PFFM.
