Natick Seeking Cannabis Business Proposals

NATICK, MA — Natick is asking cannabis businesses to submit proposals to set up shop in the town. The request comes as nearby communities like Framingham and Marlborough are handling multiple applications for cannabis businesses.

The town Department of Community and Economic Development will accept proposals on a rolling basis — except cannabis retailers, which must submit proposals by May 4. The town has a cap of two retailers, but there's no cap on ancillary businesses like grow operations, manufacturers, and testing labs.

Last February, the Board of Selectmen approved a host-community agreement with Lakeville-based Bountiful Farms for a medical marijuana dispensary. The 4,000 square-foot facility would be located behind the Crowne Plaza along Route 9. The Planning Board held public hearings on the dispensary on Jan. 8 and Feb. 5.

The town is asking any interested cannabis business to submit a "request for information" (RFI) packet outlining business plans and Cannabis Control Commission licensing status, among other items. The packets will then be reviewed by Natick police, Public Health, the Town Administrator, and a member of the Board of Selectmen. After that process, businesses might be invited to negotiate a host-community agreement with the town.
