Natick Summer 2021 Mosquito Spraying Schedule Released
Each spring and summer, the Central Massachusetts Mosquito Control Project sprays to control the mosquito population.
NATICK, MA β The Central Massachusetts Mosquito Control Project (CMMCP) has begun releasing spraying schedules for the summer months for cities and towns between Natick and Worcester. Spraying happens each spring and summer to prevent mosquito-borne diseases.
In 2021, CMMCP will conduct more widespread spraying in certain communities that were deemed high-risk during the 2019 Eastern equine encephalitis (EEE) outbreak. Those communities include Ashland, Grafton, Holliston, Hopkinton, Hopedale, Marlborough, Milford, Northborough, Northbridge, Shrewsbury, Southborough, Sturbridge and Westborough.
CMMCP uses a variety of pesticides to eliminate mosquito larvae. Earlier this year, the organization said it does not use the Anvil 10+10 pesticide, which has been linked to PFAS β a group of potentially harmful chemicals found at elevated levels in drinking water in towns like Natick and Wayland. Anvil 10+10 does not contain PFAS, but barrels used to store it did, according to reports.
