Potholes Plaguing Natick Motorists Early This Winter Season

What's the biggest issue affecting Natick with the massive temperature changes this winter?

If you guessed potholes, you're right.

According to Natick Patch readers on Facebook, many potholes around town are causing headaches for motorists.

"Corner of Chrysler Road and Speen St.," Cherilynn Blumenthal wrote. "Nasty one ... not too wide but pretty deep and hurts if you hit it!"

"Rt 27 Wayland-Natick line is a mess," Hillary Geronemus Truslow wrote.

Another reader mentioned South Street, as well.

Residents will be happy to know the issues haven't gone unnoticed by town officials.

"We get phone calls almost every day regarding potholes," Interim DPW Director Thomas Collins said. "Our crews have noticed them. I reported a couple myself to the highway department."

But with heavy rain predicted for this weekend, followed by another cold snap by the middle of next week, Collins knows it will get worse.

"It's inevitable," he said. "This is New England."

Collins said when crews are not salting or sanding roads, they are split up in various sections of town patching the roads.  

"Supervisors as are sending them where they are needed, where the worst roads are," he said.

Because of potholes popping up earlier than usually, Collins said his budget will also be affected

"I can’t give you an honest, straight answer (on how much it will be affected)," he said. "Winter could shut off right now, or we could continue to be affected into April. The budget will continue to affected by the weather."
