What is on the Natick High 2013 Summer Reading List?

For high school students summer means no school, high temperatures, a summer job and hopefully some vacations, but with all those distractions it's easy to forget about summer reading.

Students entering grades 9 through 12 have specific summer reading requirements based on the classes they are taking.

Entering Grade 9

• All incoming freshman must read Lay that Trumpet in our Hands by Susan Carol McCarthy. 
• Students in English 10 will also read Zeitoun by Dave Eggers.

Entering Grade 10

• Students in English 22 will read Elsewhere by Gabrielle Zevin.
• Students in English 21 will read The Long Valley by John Steinbeck.
• Students in English 20 will read The Long Valley by John Steinbeck and The Saffron Kitchen by Yasmin Crowther.

Entering Grade 11

• All students will read World War Z by Max Brooks.
• Students in English 30 will also read A Farewell to Arms by Ernest Hemingway and fill out the Hemingway Code Hero.

Entering Grade 12

• All students will read two books by the same author off a list on the school's website (some suggestions below). Students must let Ms. Hagemeister know of their decision by July 12.
• Students taking English 40 will also read How to Read Literature like a Professor by Thomas C. Foster.
• Students taking AP Literature and Composition will also read Catch 22 by Joseph Heller, The Fountainhead by Ayn Rand, and How to Read Literature like a Professor by Thomas C. Foster while completing a packet from Ms. Donnolly.
• Students taking AP Language and Composition will also read How to Read Literature like a Professor by Thomas C. Foster and two books from a list provided by Mr. Wall.
• Authors for all seniors: Jane Austen, Charles Dickens, F. Scott Fitzgerald, James Joyce, Douglas Adams, Ray Bradbury, H.G. Wells, Maya Angelou, Zora Neale Hurston, Cormac McCarthy, Joyce Carol Oates, Salmon Rushdie, Agatha Christie, Stephen King, George Bernard Shaw, Oscar Wilde, Geraldine Brooks, William Martin.
