Bill Would Help Communities Improve Water, Sewer Infrastructure
Senate leaders on Beacon Hill have presented a proposal to help local communities borrow money to fix aging systems.

State leaders haveΒ presented a plan that would increase the amount that communities can borrow through low-interest loans from the stateβs Water Pollution Abatement TrustΒ to repair drinking and wastewater systems.
According to Associated Press, a 2012 report found that the commonwealth βis facing a shortfall of approximately $21 billion over the next two decades to keep driving and wastewater systems in a state of adequate repair."

Sponsors of the legislation said the legislation would create a βleak classification systemβ to alert communities of βhigh-hazard leaks,β while also pushing for more βgreenβ water projects.
