Please join Needham and surrounding community members to raise critically needed funds for the U.S. and global response to COVID-19.
Save the Children, Boston Leadership Council is proud to announce a Live Webinar on Wednesday, May 6th from 7:00-7:45 PM to raise critically needed funds for the U.S. and global response to COVID-19. Please join Save the Childrenβs Boston Leadership Council from the comfort and safety of your home for a live, interactive webinar to learn more about gender-differentiated impacts of a pandemic and how a gender lens can save lives and inspire breakthroughs. Dive deeply into unique challenges women, girls and gender non-conforming people face during a pandemic and Save the Childrenβs gender-informed response to those most affected by COVID-19.
The Boston Leadership Council welcomes three experts from Save the Children to lead the discussion: Carolyn Miles, former CEO and President; Nora OβConnell, AVP, Policy & Advocacy and Yeva Avakyan, AVP, Gender Equality & Global Point for Gender COVID-19 Response.
With schools closed and families staying at home, women and vulnerable children are susceptible to increased abuse in their homes. Without education, life chances for economic independence are reduced. Curtailing formal education increases the likelihood that young girls are married off and face the dangerous prospect of childbirth in unsafe conditions.

Along with the perennial challenge of preventing and addressing gender-based violence and ensuring social protection and economic empowerment, other major goals include giving girls and women equal voice and participation, easing the disproportionate burden of womenβs and girlβs care work, ensuring social protection and prioritizing information and services on sexual and reproductive health. Particularly topical is the need to support and address the needs of the many women who, as the vast majority of the frontline caretakers and health workers, are more vulnerable to infection on the frontline of pandemic.
Registration for the Webinar is now open at the website below. If you are unable to attend the Webinar, please help with a donation, if you are able. We are humbled to have an amazing $50,000 matching gift commitment. This event is chaired by Sejal T. Srinivasan, Boston Leadership Council Chair, Communications and Community Development Committee and Wayland resident. Committee members include ML Krakauer of Wayland, Roberta Moore of Dover and Diane Bevan of Sudbury.
