Crash With Injury, Identity Theft: Needham Police Log

September 17
9:30 a.m. - A South Street resident reported that some checks may have been stolen from her mailbox. Needham Police, Postal Police and her bank are investigating.
9:30 a.m. - An officer responded to Central Avenue near Booth Street for a two-vehicle crash with a possible injury. As a result of the investigation, one operator was issued a citation for failure to stay within marked lanes. One operator was transported to Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center - Needham with minor injuries.

A resident of Washington Avenue reported he was the victim of an attempted scam through his computer. This is under investigation.
1:10 p.m. - An officer responded to a Hillside Avenue address for a report of a vehicle that had been broken into. The reporting party told told the officer that he believed his unlocked vehicle was entered on Sept. 7 and some interior trim pieces were stolen.

A resident of Edgewater Drive reported that someone used his identity to write fraudulent checks against his checking account. Bank of America is investigating.
5:00 p.m. - An officer conducted a traffic stop on Highland Avenue for an expired inspection sticker. As a result of the traffic stop a 46-year-old Newton man was issued a summons for unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, operating a motor vehicle without insurance, and operating a motor vehicle with a revoked registration.
6:00 p.m. - An officer was dispatched to a Evergreen Road residence for report of vandalism. The reporting party showed an officer damage sustained to a storm door. A report was taken for the incident.
Officers were dispatched to Wexford Street address to assist another Police Department in a investigation. Police then arrested 53-year-old Richard Fontecchio of Natick man and charged him with improper storage of a firearm.
September 19
6:00 p.m. - A Needham resident came to the police station to report they were a victim of identity theft. They notified the credit agencies and placed a freeze on her credit.
