It’s Official: Coakley Announces Run for Governor

Attorney General Martha Coakley officially announced Monday morning she is running for governor of Massachusetts. Coakley made the announcement on her website just after 6 a.m.

She is expected to make her first public appearance in the race in her hometown of Medford later Monday morning.

In her announcement, Coakley says after some tough years, this state is ready to take off and that she wants to be the governor who makes sure everyone has the opportunity to succeed as our economy comes back.

“A lot of people say politics is tough and it can be,” Coakley says in her announcement. “I know what it’s like to lose a race. I know how hard that is. But you know what, it’s nothing compared to what so many people go through every day in their lives. And that’s what I’ll keep in mind everyday if you give me the privilege of being your governor. I’ll never stop fighting because I know this, you’ll never stop fighting either."

Coakley is expected to make more than a dozen campaign stops across the state over the next few days.
