Needham Police Officer Assaulted While Breaking Up Fight

NEEDHAM, MA — A New Year's Day fight in Needham ended with one officer assaulted and a man arrested on several charges. According to police, the fight was called in at 6 a.m. on Cabot Street.

The fight was still going on when police got to the scene. As they broke things up an officer was assaulted by 40-year-old Boston man. The man was identified in arrest reports as Braxton Fernandes.

Police did not disclose if the officer suffered any serious injuries.

Fernandes was charged with assault and battery on a police officer, resisting arrest and disorderly conduct.
