Needham Police Warn Residents of Phone Scam

A Great Plain Avenue resident was recently scammed out of $199.99.

Needham police are advising residents of the town to be aware after one person fell victim to a costly phone scam.

On Monday morning, a resident of Great Plain Ave. told police that she was the victim of a phone scam. She stated that she had received a call from someone claiming to be a Microsoft representative.

According to police, the suspect told her that her computer had a virus. The individual then asked for a payment of $199.99 to fix the issue.

The victim provided the caller with her debit card number and the money was withdrawn from her bank account.

She later contacted Microsoft and was informed that she had been scammed, police said.
