Needham Student's Documentary to Air on PBS

Joshua Margolis, a television-radio major at Ithaca College, produced "Behind the Blue Line."

Needham resident Joshua Margolis, a junior television-radio major in the Roy H. Park School of Communications at Ithaca College, produced β€œBehind the Blue Line,” a documentary set to air on PBS.

Behind the Blue Line profiles Ithaca College professor Katharine Kittredge, who teaches in the English Department at Ithaca College and also competes in a men’s ice hockey league, according to ReadMedia.

Margolis produced β€œBehind the Blue Line” as a project for β€œTVR Nonfiction Production, β€œ a course focused on documentary production.

TVR 29900 Nonfiction Production, taught by John Scott, is an intermediate-level documentary production course that emphasizes the production skills, storytelling concepts, and legal and ethical framework for successful documentary productions.

The course also explores stylistic approaches to the genre, concepts related to the documentary maker’s β€œvoice” within his or her work, subgenres within the documentary format, and distribution, fund-raising, and research strategies.

Margolis’ documentary will air on PBS station WCNY on Sunday, Oct. 4, at 11 p.m.
