Smithsonian Offering Free Admission to Area Museums Saturday

Museum Day Live! provides free admission to the and many other museums on Saturday, Sept. 28.

There will be free admission Saturday toΒ nearly a dozen museums on the North Shore participating in Smithsonian Magazine’s Museum Day Live!

A number of places in the Boston area, like theΒ Collection of Historical Scientific InstrumentsΒ inΒ Cambridge, theΒ Gibson House MuseumΒ andΒ Historic New EnglandΒ inΒ Boston, and the birthplace of the president,Β John Fitzgerald Kennedy National Historic SiteΒ inΒ Brookline.Β

Closer to home,Β Historic Newton is participating as well.Β The event will be heldΒ at the the Jackson Homestead and Museum,Β 527 Washington St. in Newton,Β will be heldΒ Saturday, Sept. 28, noon toΒ 5 p.m. Also, at the Durant Kenrick House and Grounds,Β 286 Waverley Ave. in Newton,Β onΒ Saturday, Sept. 28, 1:45 p.m. toΒ 5 p.m.

Admission is typicallyΒ $5 for adults, $4 forΒ students and seniors and children under 16 are always free.

The Museum Day Live! runs annually each September providing free admission to hundreds of museums across the country, just as admission is free to the Smithsonian Museums in Washington, D.C. each day of the year. This is the ninth annual event. Last year, more than 400,000 people nationwide got free admission to a museum.

In order to participate,Β museum guests need to log on to the Smithsonian Magazine websiteΒ and enter their name, address and e-mail address and indicate which museum they plan to visit.
