Alexander 'Sam' Proia, Cherished Newton Coach, Waltham Resident, Passed Away

Alexander “Sam” Proia of Waltham, formerly of Newton, died Sept. 26, 2015. Beloved Husband of the late Charlotte F. (Damon) Proia, who passed in February.

Devoted Father of Charles “Chuck” Proia and his wife Daniela of Newton and Jennie A. Scafidi and her husband Lawrence “Larry” of Waltham.

Loving Papa of Mariah, Taylor, Maria, Arrianna and Michael.

Dear Brother of: Pat Proia and wife Rose, Domenic Proia Jr. and wife Catherine, and the late Theresa Gallo and Rose J. Proia, Francis “Lefty” Proia, Mathilda Proia.

Son of the late Domenic and Jennie Proia.

Brother-in-law of Alice “Bunny” Cotoia of Newton and the late Patricia Korn and Charles Damon.

Also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Served in the US Army during the Post-WWII Era.

Founding Member of Newton Athletic Association (NAA) Football. Past Member of Newton Sons of Italy, Waltham Lions Club, and former Board Member of the Waltham Little Nippers Baseball League. Cherished and devoted coach of numerous athletic teams in Newton.

Magni & Son Funeral Home, 365 Watertown St, Rt. 16, Newton, Wednesday, 9/30, from 3-8PM and again Thurs morning at 9:30AM, before proceeding to Our Lady Help of Christians Church, 573 Washington St, Newton for a 10:30AM Funeral Mass. Burial Mt. Feake Cemetery, Waltham.
