Car Catches Fire After Rollover Crash On Route 128 In Newton

NEWTON, MA β€” The ramp to the Mass Pike is back open after crews were able to clear debris from a rollover that caused a fire and jammed traffic this afternoon.

It's not immediately clear what caused the crash, but Newton firefighters rushed to put out a car fire after the car rolled over and caught fire on 128 North Friday afternoon. The Route 128 northbound off-ramp to the Mass Pike at Route 30 was blocked, backing up traffic for about an hour, authorities said.

When crews got there the driver was out of the car.

Then a little later firefighters were called to help when someone crashed into a pole on Lowell Avenue.

In both cases the drivers were evaluated by EMS. The driver in the rollover did not need to be taken to the hospital, according to fire officials. It's not clear if they were taken to the hospital.
